Terms of Service

The deal: you own your book. We run the desk. AI knocks. Read the parts that protect both of us.

Last updated: 2026-07-19

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a contract between you and Snowlabs ("Snowlabs," "we," "us") for typewriter.digital, Typewriter, CoAuthor, related apps (including the Mac local desk), and related services (the "Service").

By creating an account, clicking accept, paying, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Short version: you own your writing. We need a limited license to host it and run CoAuthor when you ask. AI can be wrong. You are responsible for what you publish. Do not break the law or our meters. Paid plans renew until you cancel.

1. The Service

Typewriter is book writing software: manuscript desk, binder, story bible, map, export, collaboration, and related craft tools. CoAuthor is an optional AI partner that proposes changes you accept or reject. Plans and prices: /pricing and machine-readable /pricing.md. Public ladder today: Free forever · Pro $4.99/mo · Typewriter 1.0 one-time · CoAuthor from $9/mo.

We may change, add, or remove features. Beta or experimental features may be unstable and are provided as-is.

2. Eligibility and accounts

  • You must be at least 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, if higher). If you are under 18, you represent you have parental or guardian permission where required.
  • You must provide accurate account information and keep credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account.
  • One human per account unless we explicitly allow org/team seating. Bots and bulk account farming are prohibited.
  • If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent you have authority to bind that organization.

3. Your content (you own the book)

"User Content" means manuscripts, chapters, notes, story bible, maps, images, prompts, and other material you submit or create in the Service (including material you accept from CoAuthor into your project).

You retain ownership of User Content. We do not claim copyright ownership of your book because you used Typewriter or CoAuthor.

You grant Snowlabs a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process, transmit, display, and create technical derivatives of User Content to provide, maintain, secure, develop, and improve the Service (including backups, sync, collaboration you enable, abuse detection, CoAuthor and related AI features, and product quality over time). This license ends when User Content is deleted from our systems, except for reasonable residual copies in backups for a limited period and legal retention needs.

We do not sell your unpublished manuscripts or story bibles as a content product to other authors, and we do not transfer ownership of your book to us. AI features may use third-party providers under their terms. We do not publish proprietary methods used to improve the Service. See the Privacy Policy.

You represent and warrant that you have all rights needed to submit User Content and to grant this license, and that User Content does not infringe others' rights or violate law.

4. CoAuthor and AI output

  • Propose-only by product design. CoAuthor suggestions are proposals. You decide what enters the manuscript. Optional auto-accept modes, if offered, are still your configuration and responsibility.
  • No guarantee of accuracy or originality. AI can be wrong, generic, biased, inconsistent with your canon, or similar to other text. We do not warrant that output is unique, publishable, or free of third-party claims.
  • Copyright reality check. Laws on AI-assisted works vary by country and change. In the U.S., copyright generally requires human authorship. You are responsible for how you use AI in works you publish or register.
  • Your responsibility. You are solely responsible for reviewing, editing, and deciding whether to publish AI-assisted text. We are not your publisher, agent, lawyer, or editor of record.
  • No professional advice. The Service does not provide legal, medical, financial, or other professional advice.
  • Rate limits and fair use. We may throttle, queue, or refuse AI requests that threaten stability, security, or plan abuse.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for illegal activity, exploitation of minors, scams, malware, or violent crime
  • Upload or generate content you do not have rights to (including infringing copyrighted works, stolen manuscripts, or private data of others without permission)
  • Attempt to force plagiarism, mass scraping of third-party copyrighted books into the Service for redistribution, or other IP abuse
  • Reverse engineer, scrape, or overload the Service; bypass plan limits, paywalls, or security; or resell the Service as your own
  • Interfere with other users, harass, or spam
  • Misrepresent AI-generated text as human-only where a platform or law requires disclosure (you own compliance for your distribution channels)
  • Use the Service to build a competing model by bulk extraction of outputs or system prompts beyond normal authoring

We may investigate and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules, with or without notice when we reasonably believe there is risk of harm, fraud, or legal exposure.

6. Feedback

If you send ideas or feedback about the Service, you grant us a free, perpetual right to use that feedback to improve the product without obligation to you. Feedback is not User Content of your book.

7. Our intellectual property

The Service (software, design, trademarks, documentation, non-user content) is owned by Snowlabs and its licensors. These Terms do not transfer our IP to you. You may not copy, modify, or create derivative works of the Service except as allowed by law or written permission.

8. Billing, renewals, refunds

  • Paid subscriptions renew automatically until canceled through the billing portal or account settings (or by contacting support if self-serve cancel fails).
  • One-time purchases (for example Typewriter 1.0) are charged once for the stated version scope. They do not include CoAuthor unless explicitly sold as a bundle.
  • Prices may change with notice for the next billing cycle.
  • Taxes may apply. You are responsible for taxes not collected by us.
  • Refunds are handled case-by-case at our discretion unless required by law. Contact hello@typewriter.digital. Chargebacks for valid delivered service may lead to suspension.
  • Failure to pay may result in loss of paid features. We may retain data for a grace period, then delete per Privacy Policy.

9. Third-party services

Payments (Stripe), hosting, auth, email, analytics, and AI model providers are third parties. Their terms also apply to their services. We are not responsible for third-party outages or policy changes, but we will act reasonably to keep the Service usable.

10. Copyright complaints (DMCA-style)

If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, send a notice to hello@typewriter.digital with: (a) your contact info, (b) description of the work, (c) location of the material, (d) a statement of good-faith belief, (e) a statement under penalty of perjury that you are authorized, and (f) your physical or electronic signature. We may remove content and terminate repeat infringers where appropriate.

11. Availability and support

We aim for reliable uptime but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free Service. Maintenance, provider outages, and force majeure happen. Support is provided on a commercially reasonable basis via email unless a separate enterprise agreement says otherwise.

Export before you need it. Keep offline copies of important work. We are not liable for lost drafts beyond the limits below.

12. Disclaimers

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT AI OUTPUT WILL MEET YOUR GOALS, BE ERROR-FREE, OR RESULT IN SALES, RANKINGS, OR PUBLICATION.

13. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SNOWLABS AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) AMOUNTS YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE twelve (12) months before the claim or (B) one hundred U.S. dollars (US $100) if you have not paid us.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations. In those places, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted.

14. Indemnification

You will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Snowlabsand its team from claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of: (a) your User Content; (b) your use of the Service; (c) your breach of these Terms; or (d) your infringement or violation of law or third-party rights (including publishing AI-assisted works).

15. Termination

You may stop using the Service anytime and may request account deletion via hello@typewriter.digital. We may suspend or terminate access immediately for violations, non-payment, legal risk, or extended inactivity after notice where practical.

On termination, your license to use the Service ends. Provisions that should survive (ownership, licenses already granted for residual backups, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, dispute terms) will survive.

16. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, excluding conflict-of-law rules, unless mandatory consumer law in your country says otherwise.

Informal resolution first. Before filing a claim, email hello@typewriter.digital with a short description of the dispute and seek good-faith resolution for 30 days.

Courts. Subject to mandatory consumer protections, exclusive venue for disputes is state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there. Class actions: to the extent allowed by law, you and we waive participation in class or representative actions. Either party may seek injunctive relief for IP or unauthorized access in any court of competent jurisdiction.

If we later offer binding arbitration for U.S. users, we will update these Terms with clear opt-out instructions before it applies to you.

17. Export and sanctions

You may not use the Service if you are barred under U.S. or other applicable export control or sanctions laws, or for prohibited end uses.

18. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. The "Last updated" date will change. Material changes may be noticed in-product or by email. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree, stop using the Service and export your work.

19. Miscellaneous

  • These Terms plus the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement for the Service (unless a signed enterprise order says otherwise).
  • If a provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
  • Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
  • You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
  • No third-party beneficiaries except as stated for indemnified parties.
  • Headings are for convenience only.

Privacy Policy

These Terms follow patterns used by author tools and AI writing products (ownership of your text, limited ops license, AI disclaimers, liability caps). They are not a substitute for advice from your own attorney. Enterprise or publisher deals may need a custom MSA.
