This Privacy Policy explains how Snowlabs ("Snowlabs," "we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use typewriter.digital, the Typewriter book writing desk, CoAuthor, related apps (including the Mac local desk), and APIs (together, the "Service").

Short version: you own your book. We do not sell it. We use what you put in the Service to run Typewriter and CoAuthor and to keep improving the product for authors. We do not publish the internal methods we use to do that. This page is not legal advice.

1. Who is responsible

The Service is operated by Snowlabs, a company in Canada. Contact for privacy: hello@typewriter.digital. Canadian privacy law (including PIPEDA) applies to how we handle personal information. When we offer the Service to people in the EEA/UK, GDPR / UK GDPR rights also apply where required. We have not appointed a separate EU representative; contact us at hello@typewriter.digital for all privacy requests.

2. Information we collect

We collect information in these buckets:

• Account & identity. Email address, display name (if you give one), authentication identifiers from providers you use (for example Google OAuth subject IDs), and session / auth tokens.
• Manuscript & project content (User Content). Books, chapters, prose, story bible entries, relationship maps, cards, outlines, notes, images you upload, export metadata (author name, ISBN, etc.), and settings stored in the cloud workspace.
• CoAuthor / AI usage. Prompts, selections, tool calls, proposals, accept/reject actions, usage meters, plan entitlements, and the project context needed to run features you use (for example open chapter, bible, and any style or voice preferences stored on your account).
• Collaboration. Invites, roles, presence signals, and feedback/comments when you share a book with someone.
• Billing. Handled by Stripe. We store Stripe customer IDs, subscription/status fields, plan identifiers, and limited invoice metadata. We do not store full card numbers on our servers.
• Device & technical. IP address, browser or app type, device type, approximate location derived from IP, crash logs, performance metrics, and security logs.
• Product analytics. Events like feature opens, funnel steps, and errors (for example via PostHog or similar) so we can fix bugs and improve the desk. We configure analytics to avoid treating your manuscript body as a marketing dataset.
• Communications. Support emails, form messages, and transactional mail logs (sign-in codes, receipts, security notices).
• Cookies & similar tech. Essential cookies for login and security. Optional analytics cookies or local storage where used. See Cookies below.

3. Local-first Mac desk

The optional Mac local desk can store manuscripts on your machine first (for example under Application Support). Offline local files are under your control on disk. Cloud sync and live CoAuthor require sign-in and an online path. If you never sync, that local library may never leave your device. When you push to cloud, the same cloud privacy rules apply.

4. How we use information

We use information to provide, maintain, secure, develop, and improve the Service (the same pattern used by major AI product companies). That includes:

• Run the desk, sync, collaboration, billing, and support
• Run CoAuthor and related AI features when you use them (including style or voice features tied to your account)
• Improve quality, reliability, safety, and usefulness of the Service for authors — including AI-assisted features over time
• Send transactional email; limited product updates where allowed
• Debug, prevent abuse, enforce Terms, and meet legal duties

We do not sell your personal information and we do not sell your unpublished manuscripts or story bibles as a content product or manuscript marketplace.

5. AI and your manuscript

Typewriter is an agent-first writing product. CoAuthor needs project context to be useful. In plain language:

• You own User Content. See Terms. We do not take copyright in your book because you used the Service.
• Provide the product. When you use AI features, we process prompts, selections, and relevant project context so the Service can respond in your workspace.
• Improve the product. We may use information processed in connection with the Service to develop and improve Typewriter and CoAuthor for users of the Service. We do not publish proprietary methods, model recipes, or internal quality systems. We do not sell your draft to other authors.
• Third-party AI providers. AI features may use external providers. They process data under their terms and our arrangements with them. Provider practices can change; we may change providers.
• Propose-only product design. Suggestions are proposals you accept or reject (unless you enable auto-accept). Processing still occurs to generate suggestions.
• Your controls. Export or delete your account under Settings → Privacy (or email hello@typewriter.digital). Leaving the Service is always an option.

6. When we share information

We share information only as needed:

• Service providers (processors). Hosting and database (for example Cloudflare, Convex), authentication, payments (Stripe), email delivery, AI inference APIs, error monitoring (for example Sentry), and analytics. They process data under contract to provide the Service, not to sell your novel.
• People you invite. If you share a book or workspace, collaborators see what their role allows (read, comment, edit).
• Legal & safety. If required by law, court order, or to protect users, the Service, or rights against fraud/abuse.
• Business transfers.If we merge, raise, or sell assets, User Content and account data may transfer under continuing confidentiality and this Policy's spirit. We will notify you of material ownership changes where required.
• With your direction. Exports, integrations, or actions you explicitly take.

We do notsell personal information as defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising in a way that would be treated as a "sale" or "share" under those laws. If that ever changes, we will update this Policy and provide required opt-outs.

7. International transfers

We and our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Those countries may have different data protection laws than yours. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (for example standard contractual clauses or provider certifications).

8. Retention

• Account and cloud project data: kept while your account is active and as needed to provide the Service
• After deletion request or account closure: we delete or de-identify personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain records for law, disputes, security, or billing (for example tax)
• Backups: may lag live deletion for a short operational window
• Logs and security data: kept for a limited period needed for security and debugging

Export your work before you leave (Settings → Privacy → Export, or email hello@typewriter.digital). Account deletion is self-serve in Settings → Privacy, or request by email.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to a modern SaaS app (HTTPS, access controls, provider security features). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. You are responsible for safeguarding account credentials and devices, and for what you share with collaborators.

10. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

• Access personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data
• Delete personal data (subject to legal exceptions)
• Export / portability of data you provided
• Object to or restrict certain processing
• Opt out of marketing email
• Opt out of sale/share of personal information (we do not sell; this is here for completeness)
• Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

Self-serve (fastest): signed-in authors can export data, delete their account, and turn off product analytics under Settings → Privacy. We aim to complete email requests within 30 days where required.

To exercise rights by email, write hello@typewriter.digital with enough detail to verify you. We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.

Canada: We handle personal information under PIPEDA and applicable provincial rules. You may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada with unresolved concerns.

EEA/UK: Where GDPR/UK GDPR applies, we process data under bases such as contract (to provide the Service), legitimate interests (security, product improvement, limited communications), consent (where required), and legal obligation. You may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

California: Categories of personal information we collect align with Section 2. We do not sell personal information. You may request know/delete/correct as above. Authorized agents may contact us with proof of authority.

11. Cookies and similar technologies

• Essential: authentication, security, load balancing, preference needed for the app to work
• Analytics / product: understand usage and errors — opt out in Settings → Privacy. Session replay is off by default.

Full detail: Cookies. Subprocessors: Subprocessors. We do not put a cookie wall in front of the desk. Blocking essential cookies may break login.

12. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where stricter rules apply). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child created an account, contact hello@typewriter.digital and we will delete it.

13. Third-party links and services

The Service may link to third-party sites or rely on their auth, payment, or AI APIs. Their privacy practices are their own. Read their policies before using those features.

14. Changes

We may update this Policy. The "Last updated" date will change. Material changes may be highlighted in-product or by email where appropriate. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated Policy. If you do not agree, stop using the Service and request deletion.
