> Scrivener owns the one-machine novel workflow. Typewriter keeps the book in the cloud: chapters, bible, propose-only AI you Accept, and export when you ship. Pick Scrivener when you live on one Mac; pick Typewriter when the desk must follow you.

## Binder vs cloud desk

Scrivener’s binder and compile are legendary on a single machine. Typewriter’s manuscript, outline, and story bible live on Book Author so phone, laptop, and coauthor share one shelf — no Dropbox war between drafts.

## AI that knocks first

CoAuthor proposes tracked edits; nothing lands until you Accept. Planner structures beats; Auto can run idea → chapters → cover checks while you watch. Scrivener stays author-only unless you paste into a chat.

## Price shape

The Typewriter desk is $2.99/month, $24.99/year, or $69.99 once. AI is wallet tokens or your ChatGPT, Claude, or Grok plan. Scrivener is a one-time license — different product shape.

## FAQ

### Is Typewriter a Scrivener alternative?

Yes for authors who want a web desk, multi-device sync, and optional CoAuthor. Scrivener still wins if you need deep local compile and never leave one Mac.

### Can I import from Scrivener?

Bring a draft via import (DOCX and common exports). Rebuild the bible beside the page on Typewriter.

### Does CoAuthor rewrite my book without asking?

No. CoAuthor proposes tracked edits. Nothing lands until you Accept. You keep the pen.

### How much is the Typewriter desk?

Desk SaaS is $2.99/month, $24.99/year, or $69.99 once. AI is separate — wallet tokens or bring ChatGPT, Claude, or Grok.

### Where is the longer guide?
